As the air grows colder and the leaves start changing I am definitely the first one to get excited about fall approaching. Just thinking about curling up on my couch with a chai latte (I hate pumpkin spice, weird I know) and settling in to have a movie marathon of horror flicks wrapped in my thickest blanket brings a big smile to my face. And although I love the aesthetic of fall what I'm really all about is the fashion from the thick sweaters to adorable booties. But the one thing I love most of all this time of year is saving money. Here are 7 things that you need in your closet this time of year and they're all under $50.
1. ANKLE BOOTS
While sandals are prime attire for the summer time they won't get you very far once the leaves start changing. A nice pair of ankle boots are essential for anybody's closet and not just for someone obsessed with fashion like me. Ranging in all sorts of colors, with heels or without, zipped up or tied in a bow; there is definitely a pair for everyone out there. Not only are they good to pair with thick socks to keep you warm but they also add a touch of style to every outfit.
These above boots are perfect for this time of year. Not only are they made of vegan leather which is perfect for girls who like to be ethically conscious but they only retail for $39. It also doesn't hurt that you can purchase these online from the comfort of your own home. Style that I don't have to leave my bed to achieve? Sign me up!
2. LONG SLEEVE DRESSES
I have always been known to be the queen of dresses. If you came over and looked into my closet that's pretty much all you would see. But you can't exactly strut down the streets of your town wear a spaghetti strap dress when the temperature drops below 50. That's why it's so important to have at least one good long sleeve dress in your closet. Not only do they look cute but you can also pair them with tights or knee high socks and a cute pair of booties. Having even just one dress goes a long way as well you can layer necklaces and jackets and make it look different every time.
A basic dress like this is just what you're looking for! With long sleeves and the wrap detailing in the front that is super trendy right you can have endless options of how to style this classic piece. At the low price of just $18 as they say, "you can never have too many black dresses".
3. BLANKET SCARVES
Now I know snow isn't falling just yet but honestly with global warming these days you have to be ready for whatever mother nature is trying to throw your way. This is where the blanket scarf comes in and changes your life. Coming in all sorts of different patterns and shades there is surely one that will go with every outfit you put together. Not only are they absolutely adorable but they're also functional at keeping you cozy as the temperature drops. When you get too hot or get sick of it tied up around your neck you can easily drape it across your shoulders as a shawl (hence the term 'blanket scarf'). With so many ways to wear it you really can't go wrong with having one in your wardrobe
Blanket scarves are sold at practically any store but with something as timeless as this you want the best quality. I found this one from Urban Outfitters for just $29 that's just in budget but is also super soft and can be a staple in your closet for every fall and winter to come.
4. A GOOD PAIR OF JEANS
Growing up I absolutely despised jeans. I hated how tight they were and never felt that they suited my body the way that they should. But that's when I realized I wasn't buying the right kind or quality. Middle school brainwashed me into thinking that the only kind of jeans in existence were skinny. But I discovered boyfriend fit and mom jeans and WOW my life is better off. It's important during the fall to make denim your best friend and the first step is by finding your perfect match. Denim goes with actually everything and once you find the right jeans for you, I promise they will rock your world this fall.
Jeans are always one of the most expensive item of clothing in anyone's closet. You never want to buy jeans that are too cheap because the color can fade and the fabric can shrink or tear easily. But you also don't want to break the bank on one pair of pants. Personally, my favorite brand of denim is either Levi's or BDG from Urban Outfitters for how durable they are. But when it comes to staying on a budget Zara is definitely the way to go. The above jeans reasonably priced at just $49! High quality jeans at an affordable price don't come around too often so it's best to snatch them up while you still can.
5. LEATHER JACKETS
When it's time to start layering up, but denim isn't doing the trick and you want to be cozy but not frumpy a leather jacket is the answer you've been seeking. If you're afraid to purchase leather for moral reasons tons of brands have vegan leather options that will suit your lifestyle. Wearing a leather jacket is the perfect alternative for the summer's jean jacket. Bonus it makes me feel super cool and like I'm going to ride off into the sunset on my boyfriend's motorcycle at any moment. Leather jackets are perfect at keeping you warm during the brisk fall months and would go perfectly with a blanket scarf or a long sleeve dress. Great for a night out or any other awesome plans you have this fall.
Just like a great pair of jeans a great quality leather jacket can be high in price. Just looking online for one to link for you, I stumbled across a leather jacket that cost $450. Personally, I could never spend that kind of money. That's why I think it's so important that we have affordable, vegan options for leather like this one up above for only $49.99! With tons of pockets and zipper detailing it not only makes a great fashion piece but it's functional as well.
6. WHITE T SHIRT
Ok seriously hear me out, you need it. After a summer spent baking under the sun while dripping in sunscreen and sweat your closet definitely needs an upgrade. What's a better place to start than with a simple white t shirt to replace the ratty one you probably wore everyday? Not everyone has the funds to completely redo their entire life, but this is surely an easy and inexpensive place to start.
Unlike the other items in this post, you can pretty much find an inexpensive white t shirt anywhere on line or in store. My favorite place to shop for basics like this is H&M because they have such a great variety of styles and colors. It also doesn't hurt that a simple t shirt on their site is only $4.99.
7. TOTE BAG
Now most people wouldn't think of a bag as something to find in your wardrobe but trust me it's essential. When I'm going pumpkin picking with my family or out to dinner with my friends I want to have my hands free. I want something that is fashionable yet functional. I want to be able to know where my phone, wallet, and keys are without having to search for them. This is where a new tote bag comes in. From many different brands and so many different color options. You're surely going to find the one for you somewhere and trust me with all the plans you're going to have you'll need it.
Bags these days are just another one of those items that can quickly run your wallet into the ground. With some purses ranging into the thousands of dollars for a seasonal bag. For a bag that's main use is to be on the go it's more beneficial to find a bag that you're able to afford yet is still stylish! While Nordstrom is well known for their collection of expensive bags what people don't know is that they also offer affordable pieces like the one seen above for under $50!
It's officially the most wonderful time of the year. So let's light our pumpkin scented candles, stuff our faces with apple cider donuts, and get shopping for the fall wardrobe of your dreams.
